New Guide Hall

The Guide Hall in Station Road has served the Girl guiding community in Burgess Hill for many years, providing a home for Martlets District and general facilities for all Girl guiding members in the Division but now needs replacing.

why build a new Guide Hall?

The existing hall is 45 years old and although adequate at the moment will shortly be likely to require major building work such as replacement roof and rewiring to stay within any new building regulations.

It is a timber construction, which is becoming increasingly more expensive to maintain, heat and insure and has inadequate storage facilities (at present many leaders are forced to store equipment etc. in their own homes).

what will it cost?

At current rates the estimated rebuilding costs will be approximately £200, 000 but the longer it takes to start the higher the cost. Although we are eligible to apply for grants many have the condition that 25% of the required sum (£50, 000) must have already been raised. At present any income to the hall pays only for heating, lighting, insurance and general maintenance.

what will the girls get?

For the cost of a 4 bedroom house a new hall will provide a better and larger meeting hall, plus a smaller meeting room for quiet activities, improved kitchen, enlarged storage facilities and office and, of course, toilets. The hall would be able to offer the necessary facilities for a range of “sleepovers”. Full consideration has been given to any existing or future disabled member. These improved facilities would be available to all members in Burgess Hill and also countywide if appropriate.
